United States - Mexico Border Shelters

These photographs were captured during advocacy trips to the U.S.–Mexico border — in both Tijuana and San Ysidro — documenting the realities faced by asylum seekers seeking safety in the United States.

In Tijuana, overcrowded shelters serve as temporary refuge for families and children navigating the U.S. immigration process amid policy backlogs and uncertainty. Across the border in San Ysidro, families endure cruel separation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, reuniting only after days — sometimes weeks — without information or support.

Each image bears witness to both the endurance and tenderness that persist even in moments of displacement.
